Top 20 Spanish Energy startups to be followed by corporates and investment funds in 2021

The energy transition has an economic potential of 8.7 trillion euros and 395 million jobs, of which the energy area could generate 87 million jobs and 3 trillion euros in the next decade.

In fact, in the NextGeneration EU, the largest amount of the nearly 27 billion coming from the European coffers corresponds to the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, which has the competencies in energy.

Energy investment is rapidly shifting towards renewables. As a result, investment in oil and gas declined while renewables maintained their investment despite the pandemic.

An energy Investment in which the technology giants are also entering, and they are aware of the ecological footprint of their facilities and data centers.

The growth of investment in energy projects is also transferring to startups. In 2020, $7,516 billion was invested in startups in this sector. Although, this is an intensely specialized investment sector.

In Spain, most of the country’s major energy companies or infrastructures managers have their investment vehicles to support startups o sound out the market in search of technologies that can complement their business.

Executives from initiatives such as Repsol Corporate Venturing, Enagás Emprende, Iberdrola, Naturgy, Enel Innovation Hub, Red Eléctrica, EIT InnoEnergy, BeAble Capital, etc. have shared with Business Insider Spain their recommendations for energy startups to follow at this time, and among them, they have chosen us!

AEInnova ha recibido la publicación de la patente de su sistema de generación eléctrica por termoelectricidad por parte de la Agencia de Patentes y marcas registradas por Estados Unidos durante el año 2021.

El sistema patentado consiste en un sistema microelectrónico capaz de maximizar la energía eléctrica producida por un conjunto interconectado de celdas termoeléctricas.

Actualmente, esta tecnología se aplica a dos productos: el Waste Heat Recovery Unit (WHRU), donde la energía generada se reinyecta a la red a la industrias para tal de mejorar su eficiencia energética y el Indu-Eye, donde la energía generada se utiliza para la alimentación de unos sistemas de sensores sin hilos y sin baterías

Mobile World Congress 2021

Mobile World Congress 2021

The Mobile World Congress has said goodbye this Thursday after four days and last year’s cancellation caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

The celebration was made possible by health improvements on the European continent. However, the incidence of the pandemic and restrictions on mobility in other regions have forced the telecommunications and digital giants to withdraw.

Even so, the organization, formed by GSMA, the Spanish government, the Catalonia government, and the Barcelona fair, has managed to pull off four days of conferences, debates, presentations, and exhibitions on the future of the technology industry in which challenges such as the development of 5G, the risks of the artificial intelligence, space exploration, robotics and genetic modification or innovation in the field of health have been addressed, making the Mobile World Congress a success.

AEInnova has been present at the MWC Spanish Pavillion Hall 2 – Stand 2F8.5 (4YFN). It has allowed us to explain our technology to significant personalities such as Carlos Prieto Gómez (subdelegate of the government in Barcelona), Francisco Polo (High Commissioner for Spain Entrepreneur Nation), and Nadia Calviño (third vice – president and minister of Economy and Digital Transformation)

Battery – Less Sensor Project

Battery – Less Sensor Project 

The Battery – Less Sensor project consists of using the waste heat present in the processes to power a new generation of wireless sensors without the need for batteries. It allows measuring temperature and vibration in industrial processes or monitoring rotating machines to facilitate predictive maintenance, avoiding production stoppages, and creating early warnings of potential failures in industrial processes.

It is financed by AEI lines of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Tourism. It is an IoT initiative developed by AEInnova together with Valoriza Servicios Medioambientales and the Cluster de l’Energia Efficient de Catalunya.

The characteristics of the project were explained in the table:

Need Monitoring of operating parameters (vibrations and temperature) in the rasper from VSM and two reactors from CIRTEC.
Solution The solution consists of installing three INDU-EYE LoRa Vibro and three INDU-EYE LoRa Termo (on the bearing support of the granulator motor, and on the jet engine cover)

The installation consists of 4 components:

  1. The thermogenerator: The device can generate electrical energy form residual heat and power the entire system.
  2. The sensors: In this case, the accelerometer for INDU-EYE LoRa Vibro and the temperature sensor from INDU-EYE LoRa Termo.
  3. The LoRa communication node:  This device will be able to send the collected data to out monitoring servers in the cloud.
  4. DAEVIS: The iIoT device monitoring system will be in charge of collecting and displaying the collected data

AEInnova among the Top Internet of Things Innovators at the Hannover Messe fair.

AEInnova has been selected as one of the 4 most innovative companies in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) in the 12th IOT/ WT Innovation World Cup of the Hannover Messe fair.

Among the 600 companies that participated in the event, AEInnova successfully classified within the leading 5%, allowing the company to pitch its INDUEYE solution live at the Hannover Messe Digital Edition. Thus, opt for the first post as the Industrial IoT innovator of 2021.

AEInnova ‘s Chairman and CBDO, Raúl Aragonés, presented the company’s wireless and battery-less IIoT solution at the Awards Ceremony on the 14th of April 2021 in the category of Smart Industries.

Despite no obtaining first place, Innovation World Cup Series recognizes and acknowledges AEInnova’s role as an industry game-changer, distinguishing itself from others for its innovation and disruptive technology. Moreover, this will strengthen the visibility and credibility of AEInnova in front of its clients and distributors. It has also provided an excellent opportunity to extend the company’s network of contact.

Anna Rovira’s internship testimonial

Anna Rovira has studied  Business Administration at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She decides to do an internship as a financial assistant and business development intern in AEInnova.  Before finishing the internship, she makes a testimonial of her pass in the company.

I have had the chance to do my undergraduate business internship in AEInnova, which I was initially drawn to because of its environmental  and social mission.  After these four months  in the company, I have seen (from a hand-on experience) the great amount of work that goes behind and innovative start – up like this one, and also the strong motivation and ambition of its people, which is definitely inspiring. Since my first day at the company, everyone has made me feel welcome and part of this whole intelligent team, everyone has been ready to help me and to thoroughly answer my questions whenever I was in need, considering that I do not have any kind of engineering background and that some concepts were hard to grasp at first. It has been a gratifying experience for me and, even though I am goind to miss the company’s light-hearted atmosphere, I wish them every succes!

One of the LIFE project objectives is the connection with other research, development, and innovation projects, LIFE or not, with the pursuit of similar sustainability goals. 

A few days ago, we started conversations with STARA GLASS about how to be on the same line with the LIFE projects. 

Here below, have a look at the SUGAR LIFE PROJECT.

SUGAR project aims to provide the glass production industry with new technology – an innovative heat recovery system for the furnace that exploits the generation of hydrogen-rich syngas for the combustion process that allows to save energy and to reduce CO2 emissions of the melting process by 10/15%.

The novelty of this application in glass production is that the heat for the Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) reaction will not be generated on purpose by direct fuel combustion but will be recovered from flue gases that otherwise would be lost into the atmosphere.

Need Monitoring of operating parameters (vibrations and temperature) in the landfill gas recovery and the leachate treatment plants from the Sta. Mª de Palautordera landfill.
Solution The solution consists in the installation of two INDU-EYE LoRA Vibro (in a landfill gas blower and in the cogeneration ventilator  motor) and a INDU-EYE LoRA Termo to monitor the temperature at the outlet of the leachate evaporation plant

The installation consists of 4 components:

1) The thermogenerator. It is the device capable of generating electrical energy from residual heat and that will power the entire system. In this case, we detect temperatures from 60 to 120 celsius degrees .

2) The sensors. In this case,  the accelorometer for INDU-EYE LoRA Vibro and the temperature sensor for INDU-EYE LoRA Termo.

3) The LoRa communication node. This device will be able to send the collected data to our monitoring servers in the cloud.

4) DAEVIS. It is the iIoT device monitoring system that will be in charge of collecting and displaying the collected data.

Solution

INDU-EYE LoRa Vibro

The iIoT INDU-EYE LoRA Vibro platform consists of 4 components:

1) The thermogenerator. It is the device capable of generating electrical energy from waste heat and that will power the entire system. In this case, the furnace has a flat surface with a temperature of 98.3 degrees Celsius.

2) The accelerometer sensor. In this case, it will be located on the blower motor at a distance of 3 meters from the thermogenerator.

3) The LoRa communication node. This device will be able to send the collected data to our monitoring servers in the cloud.

4) DAEVIS. It is the iIoT device monitoring system that will be in charge of collecting and displaying the collected data.
